Because I am from North Vancouver, trees, creeks, rivers and rain are my unconscious and my conscious self, and I can be nothing more than what I call this place, or what this place may have been called by those who created the first footpaths through the trees. Lonsdale, Seymour, Lynn—these names disappear in the rays of the morning sunlight falling between forest treetops.

I have read that there is a tree of life connecting heaven and deep earth, and it has a name, but because I am from North Vancouver and must wonder what creeks, rivers, trees and rain were named before, and before, wonder whether a tree can ever keep a name other than tree—the way the first people here call themselves people of the inlet.
